Bicycling in France with "la
petite Reine" (*)
Follow the little roads through the vineyards of Burgundy,
descent the mountain pastures of Savoie, amble along roads lined
with gorse in the Morbihan… At a different pace, touring on
bicycle and mountain biking add an air of freedom to your
excursions.
You don't need to bike like a pro of the "Tour
de France"
to enjoy the French country side! A good map giving you the
degree of up- or down- hill will be very useful. Take a road
boarding a river, and follow the flow of the river: you'll be
sure to have a relatively easy run. Or bike on the bank of a
canal: these small "sentiers" were used in the "old days" for
pulling the transport-barges by horses!
(*) "la petite Reine" = name
given by the French to the bicycle.... the Queen of the Road! |

Biking Adds Provence Cooking Classes
Discover France Biking has added yet another
twist to its unique bicycle vacations, this time with
cooking classes in the heart of Provence. The classes
are conducted by the ever-entertaining and energetic
Jean-Marie Carret at the beautifully restored
renaissance Chateau of Vins Sur Caramy, in the Var
department of Provence. Jean-Marie speaks fluent english
and has received clients such as the actor Sean Connery.
The program combines 4 days of biking, either guided or
unguided, in the region around Brignoles and Vins Sur
Caramy with 3 days of cooking classes which include
visits to the local markets to buy the needed goods.
"Students" get to enjoy their coursework at the evening
meal in preparation for the next day’s bicycle
discovery. |

Mountain Biking
in the Alpes
Mountain biking downhill is a vacation, and its
one of the newest products available from Discover
France Biking. Two options exist, one is based in the
"chic and cool" alpine town of Chamonix while the other
is a getaway to the small village of Lanslevillard near
the Italian border. In either case you can have the
pleasure of a van ride or gondola ride in the morning
before tackling the trails and little alpine villages on
the day’s itinerary. Both tours are guided and include
just about all you need, which even covers the
opportunity to parapente or climb rock gorges attached
to wire cables (via Ferrata).
Crossing the Ardeche
plateau.
A Week’s cycling tour of over 150 km for 6 to 10
people. From St. Agreve to Montselgues, cycling between
volcanic cones, along forest, across fields… Gites,
region dishes and rural life to be discovered along this
scenic trail. |
